Thule 518 Echelon Roof Bike Rack Reviews
Thule Racks is unique in their fork mount bike rack engineering. Instead of an axle skewer with quick release lever for adjusting and tightening the bike fork to the bike rack fork block, Thule uses a clever twin cam tightening system which works very well. The problem is that it isn't super easy to adjust the thumbwheel knob and get both sides equally tightened to the bike fork. But the Thule 518 Echelon overcomes this previous problem with an equalized twin cam that clamps and tightens perfectly with just the simple turn of the adjusting knob. We loaded all kinds of bicycles, road, mountain, hybrid & even bikes with disc brakes and funky suspension shock set ups and it was a snap everytime. The extra long neck between the bike tray and the fork block allows for all kinds of disc brake/suspension set-ups. No problem mounting the carrier to Thule square bars and the Xadapt 9 adapter kit makes quick work of getting it mounted to the elliptical Rapid Aero base rack load bars also. Very high marks for the dual locking design that simultaneously locks the bicycle inside the carrier and the carrier to roof rack using just one Thule lock.
