Rocky Mounts Clutch SD Reviews
Leave it to the crafty folks at RockyMounts to once again come up with a clever solution at an unbeatable price! The truckbed rail tracks on pickup trucks like the Toyota Tacoma & Tundra and Nissan Frontier & Titan are a neat new feature on pickups. The dilemma is how can these be used to carry bikes without using the awful bike racks that the truck manufacturers offer. The answer is the Rocky Mounts Clutch SD bike rack. This is a super solid and rugged fork mounting block that connects to the track rail. An end piece slides nicely into the tracks and then you simply bolt the RockyMount Clutch SD to this piece. The big beefy skewer and fork mount connection deliver plenty of room for suspension / shock forks and/or disc brakes, but works just as well with road bikes, hybrids and regular mtn bikes too. The Clutch SD also includes a lock and keys that installs in the skewer lever for theft protection. The one drawback is if someone had the time and tools they could unscrew the hex bolts and make off with the bike that way.
The RockyMounts Clutch SD was tested on the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier rail tracks. The bikes rode very stably without any lateral movement even on rough and bumpy roads. The rear wheel did kick up a few times but that really wasn't much of a problem. The most we could install were three Clutch SD bike racks at one time without the handlebars interfering with each other. The price of this little monster is what knocks our socks off the most though!
